U.S. Sens. Mark Begich and Lisa Murkowski, along with Rep. Don Young, say in a joint release they have introduced legislation to rename the federal building to honor Fitzgerald, who died in April. Fitzgerald served on the Alaska Superior Court, Alaska Supreme Court and the U.D. District Court for Alaska from 1959 to 2006.

The Alaska Federal Courthouse Naming Committee recommended the name change.
