Avalanche beat Fresno in junior hockey

The Alaska Avalanche scored the last three goals of the game Saturday to beat the Fresno Monsters 5-2 in a North American Hockey League game at Palmer's MTA Center.

Joe Schmitz broke a 2-2 tie with a goal that came with two seconds left in the second period. Kevin Novakovich and Mitch Kontny added insurance goals in the third period.

The Avalanche, who beat Fresno 3-0 Friday, will try to sweep the three-game series today when they meet Fresno in a 5 p.m. game.
