A man who police say has sexually abused one or more children has jumped bail and may be trying to flee the country, Anchorage police said today.

Vaituu Motuga, 41, faces five felony counts of sexual abuse of a minor, court records show. Motuga made his first court appearance on the charges Aug. 12.

He was released on bail under the watch of two third-party custodians, said Det. Leonard Torres. Motuga failed to appear at an Oct. 10 hearing, court records show.

Torres suspects he may now be on the run to Samoa.

Police are asking for help finding Motuga, who is also known as Jerry Togiai. He is 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighs about 200 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Call 786-8900 if you know his whereabouts, police said.

Police suspect Motuga may have had multiple victims. His bail was set at $100,000, said Lt. David Parker, a police spokesman.
