Friedli, Bennett take 1st day CIC diving lead

Chugiak's Kaitlyn Friedli and Dimond's Cade Bennett grabbed commanding leads in Thursday's diving preliminaries at the Cook Inlet Conference swimming and diving championships at the Bartlett pool.

Friedli and Bennett each hold leads of more than 50 points after five rounds of 1-meter diving. Friedli scored 165.95 points for the girls lead, and Bennett accumulated 226.35 to pace the boys.

Divers will compete in three rounds of semifinals Saturday morning, with finals set for the afternoon.

The championships continue today at 3 p.m. with swimming preliminaries at Bartlett.
