An investigator for the National Transportation Safety Board says the wreckage of a helicopter belonging to Era Helicopters LLC has been found near Iliamna in southwest Alaska and the pilot is confirmed to have died.
NTSB investigator Clint Johnson tells KTUU-TV that the wreckage was spotted just after noon Sunday about six to eight miles southwest of Iliamna.
A helicopter on its way to Iliamna was reported missing Saturday night. Era Helicopters says the pilot was the only person on board. The pilot's name has not been released.
Iliamna, a community of just more than 100 residents, is on the northwest side of Iliamna Lake about 225 miles southwest of Anchorage.
