Fellow crewmen found Sui Filisi, 37, dead early Wednesday onboard the catcher-processor Alaska Warrior, said Police Chief Jamie Sunderland. Filisi's body was sent to Anchorage on Thursday for an autopsy, and until police receive the medical examiner's report it will remain unclear how Filisi died, Sunderland said.
"That's kind of a big piece that we're waiting on," Sunderland said.
The police chief said his officers interviewed all of the Alaska Warrior's crew, took pictures of the area where Filisi was found and further processed the scene. They found nothing outwardly suspicious, Sunderland said.
"I would say that there were no obvious signs of trauma or anything like that," Sunderland said. "But we're talking the matter seriously and investigating it as fully as we can based on the limited information we have."
According to state records, the Alaska Warrior is a 215-foot vessel owned by Seattle-based Fishing Company of Alaska.
