Occupy Anchorage tents allowed to stay if within rules

In Anchorage, a small group of Occupy Anchorage protestors has had tents set up at the edge of Town Square. But they are not staying overnight in the park, which is closed from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., said police spokesman Lt. Dave Parker.

City attorney Dennis Wheeler said the protesters' tents may be in the road right-of-way. They can be either in the right-of-way or on the sidewalk overnight, he said. They are allowed in the park during the day.

There are no plans to try to move the protesters out, Wheeler said.

Parker said police officers check on the protesters frequently. Police Chief Mark Mew spoke to some protesters Tuesday to address concert-goers' complaints that one or more protesters were too aggressive, Parker said.
