The cold snap is causing an overflow at homeless shelters in Anchorage. KTUU reported the Brother Francis Shelter has surpassed its capacity of 240 for the last four nights. There were 350 needing space on Monday night, when temperatures fell into the single digits.
The overflow went to the adjacent Bean's Cafe, which can hold 142. That's of concern to shelter managers since traditionally, Bean's doesn't usually have to open until January or February.
