KENAI -- Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Mike Navarre has signed a disaster declaration, requesting assistance from the state to recover the costs associated with the damage caused by the recent windstorms in the region.
KSRM radio reports that Navarre says the windstorms caused widespread damage to electrical power distribution and transmission lines, homes, businesses, a harbor, telephone systems and coastal areas.
The preliminary damage estimate exceeds $1.8 million.
