New at Alyeska Resort this year

Published: November 23, 2011

Crews thinned trees -- or gladed -- runs near West Line on the North Face and near Steilhang and The Slot near the midway point of Chair 1 on the main mountain.

The resort installed some winch anchors for groomers, making grooming more efficient and easier.

Lift maintenance workers put in a roughly $100,000 bullwheel for Chair 6. This means the popular chair to the highest lift-accessed skiing will run consistently and well into the future, the resort says.

An earlier opening for season pass holders allowed them to ski Tuesday, before anyone else. It was a popular change for Alyeska's most-dedicated customers, the resort says.

The ski area switched from plastic day passes to paper, which are still rechargeable and the same price they've been for three seasons, the resort says.
