Southern Miss beats UC-Irving in Shootout

Maurice Bolden's double-double Thursday night carried Southern Mississippi past UC-Irvine 78-67 and into the semifinals of the Great Alaska Shootout.

Bolden was one of four Southern Miss players to score in double figures. Torye Pelham had a game-high 17, LaShay Page chipped in 14 and Neil Watson added 10 as the Golden Eagles improved to 3-1.

The Golden Eagles take on New Mexico State tonight at 8 at Sullivan Arena.

Southern Miss led by as many as 15 points and was always in command in the second half after forging a 30-24 halftime lead. The Golden Eagles shot 47.1 percent in the second half to pad their lead.

Irvine (0-4) was led by CHris McNealy's 15 points and 11 rebounds. Daman Starring also dropped in 15 points, Aaron Wright scored 13 and Michael Wilder had 11.

Pelham grabbed five of his team's 13 offensive rebounds and helped Southern Miss claim a 46-39 advantage on the boards.
