KTUU-TV says the Conservative Patriots Group is sponsoring the petition. The group began collecting signatures soon after Menard's trip on city business, during which he racked up more than $350 in hotel cleaning fees.
Frank Bettine, public relations officer for the Conservative Patriots Group, says the group believes politicians should exhibit the highest character, values and morals when in office.
Menard apologized for his behavior and is no longer allowed to travel on city business. The hotel charged for a burned mattress, vomit on the carpet, urine on furniture and evidence of smoking.
