Alaska has fewer than average immigrants, higher percentage from Asia

An Alaska Justice Forum review of 2005-09 census statistics shows that Alaska has fewer foreign-born residents per capita than the U.S. average, and that relatively few are in the country illegally. About 45,000 Alaska residents are foreign-born, about 7 percent of the total population. One way Alaska immigrants differ from those in most of the rest of the country is that more of them are from Asia -- with Filipinos making up by far the largest group. In the rest of the U.S., Hispanics make up the largest immigrant group. Hear a full report on the Justice Forum analysis from KSKA on the Alaska Public website.
