Alaska received 20,000 free doses from the drug manufacturer, which also has donated doses to other states in an effort to ensure widespread vaccination nationally.

National Influenza Vaccination Week begins on Sunday.

The chief of the department's epidemiology section says Alaska's flu season usually peaks after January, and says this is a good time to take advantage of the free vaccine offer.

The vaccine is for adults 18-64.

Groups seeking free vaccines can request them online or contact the epidemiology section. Providers cannot charge for the vaccine but they can for giving it, if they wish.
