Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Jonathan Lally says the techs should fly from Anchorage to Adak on Thursday and then proceed to the Morning Cedar.

The 650-foot ship carrying a crew of 23 and a full load of lumber sustained steering problems Monday. The crew was not able to fix a hydraulic leak on the Singapore-flagged vessel.

Lally says the ship's owners also have arranged for a tug, which is scheduled to leave Seattle on Wednesday for the nine-day journey.

A Coast Guard cutter is expected to arrive near the Morning Cedar late this evening to assist if an emergency response is needed.
