1A-2A, Mixed 6 state volleyball finals set

Kenny Lake gets a chance to win its first state volleyball championship in 14 years against a Klawock team that is seeking its third crown in two years today at the Class 1A-2A state volleyball tournament at Dimond High.

Kenny Lake, which hasn't won a title since 1997, outlasted Cook Inlet Academy of Soldotna in a four-set semifinal, 25-14, 25-18, 17-25, 25-21. Klawock, the 2009 champ, knocked off defending champion New Stuyahok 25-21, 25-22, 25-10 in the other semifinal.

The title match is at 6:30 p.m. At 12:30 p.m., New Stuyahok will play CIA in the third-place match and at 10:45 a.m., Lumen Christi of Anchorage will face Kalskag in the fourth-place match.

Mixed 6 championship

Glacier View and Noatak will be both aiming for their first state volleyball championship today in the title match in the Mixed 6 coed championships at Dimond High.

In Friday's semifinals, Glacier View rallied for a 23-25, 29-27, 25-20 win over Unalakleet and Noatak swept Aniak 25-16, 25-10, 25-22. The winners meet for the championship at 4:30 p.m. and the losers play for third place at 2:15 p.m.

In the fourth-place match at 9 a.m., Noorvik faces Golovin.
