Glacier View captures Mixed 6 state volleyball title

Klawock lost the first two sets to Kenny Lake but stormed back to win the Class 1A-2A state title match 23-25, 18-25, 25-21, 25-16, 15-8.

Glacier View took home the Mixed 6 coed state championship by outlasting Noatak 20-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-22, 15-7.

Klawock was led by three all-tournament team picks -- Dani Larson, Cassie Williamson and Tonya Busse. Larson was named the tournament's best setter and Williamson was named best hitter.

Leading Glacier View were Carlen Thiessen, who was named the Mixed 6's best hitter, and Miranda Roub, who was named best setter. Those two, plus Allison Ruisch, landed spots on the all-tournament team for the champions.

All three of Saturday's matches in the 1A-2A tournament went five sets. Cook Inlet Academy of Soldotna claimed third place with a 23-25, 25-21, 17-25, 25-22, 15-9 win over New Stuyakok, and Kalskag beat Lumen Christi of Anchorage 25-15, 13-25, 21-25, 25-20, 15-8 in the fifth place match.

In Mixed 6 play, Unalakleet took home third place thanks to a 25-17, 25-13, 25-15 sweep of Aniak and Noorvik took fifth place with a 19-25, 25-13, 25-16, 27-25 win over Golovin.
