An unidentified witness called 911 about 11 p.m. Friday to report Christopher Inman, 26, was unresponsive after an altercation on a back road in the small Matanuska-Susitna Borough town, said troopers spokesman Tim DeSpain. The witness had difficulty describing the location to medics and eventually drove Inman to the store in Big Lake, DeSpain said.
Responding troopers found Inman dead at the store, DeSpain said. Troopers declined to release the apparent cause of Inman's death late Saturday.
Larry Mayo, 53, was arrested at or near the scene of the fight and later charged with second-degree murder, DeSpain said. It was unclear if Mayo was arraigned Saturday, the trooper spokesman said.
