Golden Bears girls win in Hawaii

Published: December 22, 2011

Bartlett seniors Kelly Rypkema and Destiny Little came up big in the fourth quarter Thursday, propelling the Golden Bears to a 50-40 win over host Waipahu High in a girls basketball game in Hawaii.

"Our seniors woke up and actually played today," Bartlett coach Steve Stansbury said. "We had a big fourth quarter and we put 'em away."

Rypkema scored 13 of her team-high 19 points in the fourth quarter and Little scored six of her 12, and Bartlett more than doubled its score with 26 points in the final frame.

Little led the Golden Bears with 12 rebounds, and Tiemchieng Panoam was right behind her with 11 boards, to go with six points and five blocks.

Stansbury said the experience in Hawaii was incredible and Waipahu couldn't have been a better host.

"They had a full luau, basically, set up for us after the game," he said. "It's 83 degrees and the sun is glaring down. It's awesome."
