On October 11, 2011, at about 9:15 a.m., Brandie Thurow-McGrew was driving her Dodge Durango south on Lake Otis, approaching Northern Lights when she struck a retaining wall on the west side of the street. The impact sent her vehicle careening across four lanes of traffic, over a curb, over a fence, across the lawn and into a house located at 2531 Lake Otis Parkway. Inside the residence was the homeowner, 37 year old Margarett Lafever, who suffered a broken left ankle and a broken right foot as a result of the collision; the front of the home was demolished.
