An Anchorage woman died Thursday when her car slid sideways and was hit by an oncoming pickup on the Sterling Highway, according to Alaska State Troopers. Troopers say Andrea Leindecker, 20, was behind the wheel of a 1995 Ford Aspire headed south on the highway when the car started sliding near Mile 41.4. Leindecker's car went sideways into the northbound lane where it was hit by a 2007 Dodge Nitro driven by 28-year-old Anchorage resident Sheena Sanchez, troopers said.
A trooper based out of Crown Point came upon the wreck during a routine patrol about 3 p.m. and attempted to save Leindecker's life. Sanchez and three minors in her SUV suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital, troopers said.
The Sterling Highway was closed for investigation until about 9:45 p.m.
