Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Defense Department agency, is calling on Guard and Reserve members to nominate their supportive employers for the 2012 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award before the Jan. 16 deadline. The Freedom Award is the Defense Department's highest recognition for civilian employers supporting Guard and Reserve members. All employers -- large, small and public -- are eligible. Guard and Reserve members, or a family member acting on their behalf, may nominate their employers at www.FreedomAward.mil.
The 2012 recipients will be announced in early summer and honored in Washington, D.C., during a special ceremony in the fall. Past recipients have met with the president of the United States and the secretary of defense.
Construction firm buys another
ASRC Construction Holding Co. has acquired the business of McGraw's Custom Construction Inc., a Native-owned small business that has been performing residential, industrial and government construction in Alaska for more than 30 years.
ASRC McGraw Constructors,LLC , a subsidiary of ACHC, purchased the assets of MCC, will be based in Sitka and employ more than 30 people. ACHC is a subsidiary of Arctic Slope Regional Corp.
