We've got plenty of National Guard here too -- call them and put 'em to work.

The trails and sidewalks on the south side are cleared before the snow even stops falling and on the east side it takes more than a week for the sidewalks to be cleared. Does that make sense? Considering the east side is where the lower income folks live and there are more people who have to walk/use the bus? I personally only use the sidewalks for recreational use but if I want to get out and go for a run I have to get in the car and drive somewhere south of Tudor Road if I don't want to have to hike through a snow bank. I just feel terrible the pedestrians that have to maneuver that mess just to get to work each day etc.

You dont hear people from Cordova and the surrounding area complaining on the news do ya?

-- Max W. Wassillie

My only complaint is about the lack of snow removal at and near bus stops. The city wants us to use the bus more, I don't drive so I need the bus, but they do little during the winter to make it convenient to walk to and stand at bus stops.

While I agree that the crews are doing the very best they can, both the city and state departments are unprepared to deal (with) this years snowfall. Agency leaders, cough up the money to hire enough staff to make our streets and sidewalks safe again.

-- Kelly Donnelly

Where's the snow REMOVAL crews for the residential streets? Is our mayor not wanting to spend the $$ to hire extra crews? It's a narrow one lane in my neighborhood. It's a safety issue for emergency vehicles, school buses, and parking. Not everyone has driveways and garages and the berms just keep piling up. Really, "doing the best they can" is their response?

-- Rose Stasco

My husband drives a truck hauling snow in Anchorage. As long as it's snowing the plows and sand trucks have to be out and the snow REMOVAL guys have to wait as they are in the way of the plows, etc. Once it stops snowing and the plowing is finished they can get back out there and REMOVE the snow. The guys are doing their best but Mother Nature isn't cooperating.

Bottom line is we've been dumped on with snow this year and it's hard to keep up. If you cant drive in the snow you shouldn't live here. They are plowing constantly around town and trying to keep up. Yes my neighborhood is down to a thin lane also, but guess what -- slow the hell down so you can see other cars, people, kids, pets, moose, etc and it's fine.

-- Tamara Butz

Hire more people to adequately remove snow, remove snow banks along all residential areas too! We're getting smothered in snow banks along all side streets.
