Anchorage resident Jenna Herrmann, 26, died after a pickup crossed the center line and collided with her Dodge Stratus, according to a trooper report. One of her passengers, Bilal Pitts, 35, later died at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna. Both were Anchorage residents, troopers say.
The accident was reported at 7:58 p.m. at Mile 87 of the Sterling Highway, west of Sterling.
Troopers say a 2007 Nissan Titan driven by 20-year-old Jesse Chumley, of Sterling, was headed northbound near Robinson Lane. The truck crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the southbound 1998 Dodge sedan, according to troopers.
Herrmann was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers say. There were two passengers in the car: Pitts, who rode in the left rear seat, and 29-year-old Tommy Brown II, who rode in the front passenger seat.
Brown and Chumley were treated for minor injuries and released, troopers say.
Troopers temporarily closed the road during the investigation, rerouting traffic through Robinson Loop, troopers say.
