The Seawolves take on Simon Fraser of Burnaby, British Columbia, tonight at 7 in the first of two Great Northwest Athletic Conference home games this week.
On Saturday at 7 p.m., the men take on Western Washington, which is also 4-1 in league play and shares second place in the conference standings with the Seawolves.
UAA (10-3 overall, 4-1 GNAC) lost to a non-Division I team for the first time this season Saturday in Seattle, where Seattle Pacific spanked the Seawolves 85-51. UAA was ranked 18th among Division II teams going into the game but this week fell out of the top 25 for the first time all season.
Expect to see lots of Alaskans in the lineup -- Travis Thompson and Colton Lauwers of Dimond High and Kyle Fossman of Haines have all had recent starts -- and another player sidelined with an injury.
Chris Weitzel, a junior forward who has seen limited action, has been out since last week with a knee injury. That gives UAA four injured players, including two potential starters -- Lonnie Ridgeway (hand) and Mario Gill (hand).
Simon Fraser is winless in the GNAC and 5-8 overall, while Western Washington is 13-3, 4-1 heading into a game tonight at UAF.
While the men will be trying to start a new winning streak, the women will be going for their 11th in a row tonight in Canada.
Ranked eighth among the nation's Division II teams, the Seawolves (14-2 overall, 5-0 GNAC) play at Simon Fraser (8-5, 3-2) tonight and at Western Washington (10-3, 4-1) on Saturday.
