Girls' night out

The producers of "Love, Loss and What I Wore," opening at Cyrano's, 413 D St., tonight insist it's not a live-action chick flick. But the collection of monologues and ensemble pieces about clothes, mothers, prom dresses, buying bras and hating purses based on the bestselling book by Ilene Beckerman will likely resonate with your women friends, so there are special deals for groups. The cast includes Scarlet Boudreaux, Krista Schwarting and Missy Williams, directed by Linda Benson. Showtimes are 7 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays through Feb. 5 and tickets are available at centertix.net.

Wilderness in focus

The late photographer Michio Hoshino is the subject of the upcoming play "The Blue Bear," playing in Anchorage next month. This month, through Jan. 28, a selection of his acclaimed photos of nature, wildlife and landscapes are on display in the guest room at the International Gallery of Contemporary Art, 427 D St., on special loan from the University of Alaska Museum of the North in Fairbanks. A group show of work by member artists is on display in the main galleries.
