Bronga takes second in Colorado Springs

UAA nordic skier Jaime Bronga finished second in the women's 5-kilometer freestyle race Friday at the Colorado Spencer Nelson Memorial Invitational in Colorado Springs. Bronga, a senior All-American from Anchorage, finished the 5-K race in 15 minutes, 1.9 seconds, netting her highest finish in a Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association event since 2009.

The UAA women scored 102 points in Friday's event, good for a two-way tie for second with Montana State. The UAA men's team took fifth in a 10-K freestyle with a combined 83 points.

Laura Rombach and Steffi Hiemer each scored points for the UAA women, finishing in 11th and 14th respectively. Lukas Ebner led the UAA men with a 10th-place finish, Lasse Molgaard-Nielsen was 13th and Nevio Zeni took 17th.

The Seawolves sit in fifth place overall with 526 points, trailing New Mexico (548) by 22. Utah leads the nine-team event with 702 points.

The event concludes today with men's and women's classical races.
