The situation began at 1:09 a.m. Troopers with the Bureau of Highway Patrol tried to pull over the Hyundai Sonata for a moving violation on Elsinore Way, near Bogard Road. The driver kept going, somehow a passenger got out, and the front driver side of the Hyundai hit the person, troopers said. The driver sped away. Troopers next spotted the Hyundai near Crusey Street. They heard him lose control and crash, the trooper report said. Troopers found the car in front of Wasilla Middle School, empty. They started looking for the driver and found him behind a grocery store.
Troopers identified the driver as Michael J. Ingersol, 24, of Wasilla. He was arrested and charged with failing to stop at the direction of an officer, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, driving without a license, and a misdemeanor count of misconduct involving a controlled substance, according to troopers. He also had a warrant out for his arrest on charges filed last year of tampering with physical evidence, providing false information, driving without a license, misconduct involving a controlled substance, and failing to stop at the direction of an officer, troopers said.
The passenger left after the incident and wasn't identified, troopers said.
