Mechanical problem halts Taku's trips

JUNEAU -- The Alaska Marine Highway System said sailings on the state ferry Taku were canceled because of a mechanical issue.

The Juneau Empire said all Taku sailings scheduled for Sunday and Monday were canceled.

The Marine Highway said staff planned to contact affected passengers and re-book them.

The ferry is expected to return to service today, departing at 2:45 a.m. from Ketchikan to travel to Prince Rupert, British Columbia.
