KENAI -- A pickup truck knocked down a gasoline pump and ignited a fire at a Kenai gas station, but the occupants inside and the station employees escaped injury.
The Peninsula Clarion reported a pickup turned into the Short Stop station at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday and slid into a support beam and then a fueling station, knocking the pump off its base.
As fire broke out, employees directed the truck away from the immediate area, shut off gasoline to the pump and called 911.
Store clerk Nick Van Bruggen said the fire burned for seven to 10 minutes before the fire department arrived and extinguished it within about two minutes.
