The Daily Sitka Sentinel reported the record for demand was set Tuesday evening.

That's when the electricity department recorded a load of 24 megawatts, which easily broke the previous 2005 record of 19 megawatts.

Andy Eggen, the city's power generation manager, said usage was off a bit Wednesday and Thursday as temperatures warmed.

The electric department said Ketchikan also set a power load record Tuesday.
