Smith assisted Chad Peterson on the game's first goal, less than two minutes in. West's Gio Barth tied it less than a minute later and the first period ended tied 1-1.
Chugiak took a 2-1 lead when Smith racked his goal 11 seconds into the second period, and then he assisted Kris Tomazevic on an early third-period goal that put the Mustangs up 3-1.
Hunter Hanson scored two third-period goals for the Mustangs, one of them on an assist from Smith. Adam Groendyke also pitched in a third-period goal for Chugiak. Mustangs goalie Joe Linquist made 15 stops.
