Markel 28th in Utah

For the second day in a row, Gabrielle Markel of the Alyeska Ski Club led a group of Alaska skiers at the Western Region Elite FIS Tech Series in Park City, Utah. Markel placed 28th in the second women's giant slalom of the series. The race was dominated by the University of Utah's women's ski team.

In men's competition at Snowbird, Dylan Fox led the Alaska with a 77th place finish in the second men's slalom of the series.

Women's giant slalom -- 1) Tii-Maria Romar (University of Utah), 1:58.03. Alaska finishers -- 28) Gabrielle Markel, 2:06.07; 43) Jordan Lane, 2:11.51; 48) Sydney Henegan, 2:12.26. Men's slalom -- 1) Petter Brenna (Westminster College), 1:31.14. Alaska finishers -- 77) Dylan Fox, 1:46.65; 81) Timothy Thornley, 1:47.54.
