A pickup veered off an overpass Friday afternoon in Spenard, landing on the lanes below and injuring its elderly driver, Anchorage police said.

The Toyota Tacoma was headed westbound on International Airport Road and crossing over Minnesota Drive about 1:30 p.m. when it went off the overpass and landed on the northbound lanes of Minnesota, said police spokeswoman Marlene Lammers.

Only the driver, in his late 80s, was injured, Lammers said. Firefighters extricated him from the pickup, but the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, she said.

"He was walking, talking, breathing," Lammers said. "He doesn't remember anything."

Police have not yet released the man's name.

One northbound lane of Minnesota Drive was closed as police officers waited for a tow truck to remove the pickup.
