Defending champion DeeDee Jonrowe scratched early in the race after one of her dogs, a female named Ophelia, got loose somewhere around Clam Gulch.
The 200-mile race began Saturday in Kasilof.
In the Tustumena Junior race, Conway Seavey took the victory in 3 hours, 58 minutes. Benjamin Lyon was second in 4:01 and Palakilya Rogers was third in 8:18.
Steer leads Redington
Anjanette Steer held a slim lead over Ray Redington in the Northern Lights 300, leaving Finger Lake after a mandatory six-hour layover at 4:45 p.m. Saturday.
Redington left at 4:51, followed by Nicolas Petit at 5:01.
The leaders were headed to Skwentna, 40 miles away. From there it's another 80 miles from the finish line of the 300-mile race, which started Friday.
Robinson takes 7-dog class
On a fast track, in sub-zero temperatures, Alea Robinson guided her seven-dog team to first place in the eight-mile division of Junior Alaskan Sled Dog and Racing Association's points race at Tozier Track.
Robinson clocked 25 minutes, 4 seconds, to edge Skipper Stitt by 12 seconds. Ali Bacon won the five-dog class, covering 5.8 miles in 18:17 for a seven-second edge over Peyton Young.
