Alaskans conquer slalom course

All four Alaska women finished the first slalom of the Western Region Elite FIS Tech Series at Snowbird, Utah, on Saturday, despite a difficult course that knocked out more than a third of the field.

The race was won by the U.S. Ski Team's Hailey Duke. Gabrielle Markel, a Junior 1 skier for the Alyeska Ski Club, led the Alaskans with a 24th place finish and Sydney Henegan, a Junior 2, skied to an impressive 32nd place finish from the 84th starting position.

Timothy Thornley led the Alaskans in the first men's G.S. at Park City.
