Wasilla, the defending tournament champion and defending state champion, was one of eight winning teams that will begin bracket play in the gold division today. The eight losing teams will do battle in the maroon division, with games for both divisions beginning at 2:45 p.m.
In other action Wednesday, Dimond slammed Nome 74-39, Colony toppled East 50-39, Juneau defeated the Dimond junior varsity 51-26, West Valley smashed South 64-22, Ketchikan slipped by West 49-41, North Pole beat Kenai 31-24 and Chugiak survived a 60-54 overtime win over Lathrop.
Wasilla's win was led by 15 points from Alysha Devine, who also grabbed seven rebounds. Alexis Imoe recorded 13 points and eight assists for the Warriors, and Kyla Dinkle racked 12 points on 6 of 11 shooting. Craig's Melissa Castle led all scorers with 16 points.
Colony led early in its win over East, pulling ahead 29-15 by halftime. Saige Stefanski led the Knights with 10 points and Taria Page led East with a game-high 14 points.
Juneau's big win was powered by 15 points and eight rebounds from Gabi Fenumiai. The Dimond JV got seven points apiece from Brittany Bagsby and Kaytlynn Haywood.
Josie Broderick paced North Pole's win with 15 points and eight rebounds, with Sydney Taylor scoring 10 points for Kenai.
West Valley's Hannah Mattson hit 10 of 16 shots to finish with 22 points in the Wolfpack's win. Jasmine Ashby led South with eight points.
Ketchikan's Shiree Seless nailed four 3-pointers on her way to a game-high 16 points for the Kings. Chamira Cockerham led West with 12 points.
Aminata Cole's 16 points and 16 rebounds sparked Dimond's big win, in which Dimond's Alexis Rogers led all scorers with 18 points. Dylan Johnson and Devynn Johnson each scored 14 for Nome.
Chugiak's Erinn Scotland scored 20 points, and Alistie Aguilar added 17 in the Mustangs' win. Lathrop's Brooke Lizotte racked 18 points.
