South 63, East 60
Late free throws by Zach Lujan, Louis Page and Wade Ellis powered South to a thrilling 63-60 Cook Inlet Conference boys basketball victory Tuesday over East.
Lujan's pair of free throws tied the game 60-60 with less than two minutes left. Page put South in the lead with 23 seconds left by hitting one free throw after drawing a foul while attempting a layup after an in-bounds pass from Lujan.
East called two timeouts in the final eight seconds to set up a last-second shot, but the Thunderbirds were fouled the first time -- and didn't shoot free throws because South hadn't put them in the bonus yet -- and dribbled out of bounds the second time.
South cemented the victory with 2.3 seconds left with a pair of free throws by Ellis.
Page led the Wolverines with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Desmond Johnson scored 22 for East.
