Hakkinen 24th in Oslo

Jay Hakkinen of Kasilof was among three American men to score World Cup biathlon points Thursday in a sprint race in Oslo, Norway.

Hakkinen and teammates Lowell Bailey and Tim Burke, both of New York, each hit nine of 10 targets while performing well on their skis to finish in the top 30. Bailey led the way by placing eighth in the 10-kilometer race. Burke was 15th and Hakkinen 24th.

Evgenley Garanichev of Russiak shot cleanly to pick up his first World Cup victory in 25 minutes, 22.2 seconds. Hakkinen, a four-time Olympian, clocked 26:38.
