The Warriors advanced to the gold-bracket semifinals, where they will play West Valley, which beat Chugiak 56-23 Thursday. Juneau earned a 60-54 victory over Colony that advances it to a semifinal tonight against host Dimond, which beat North Pole, 58-46, on Thursday.
In maroon-bracket consolation play, East thumped the Dimond junior varsity 60-29 and West rallied past Craig 56-52. Also, Nome beat Kenai 48-46 and Lathrop dispatched South 62-37.
Wasilla opened its win on a 25-12 first-quarter run and backed it up with a 20-4 second-quarter run against Ketchikan. Wasilla's Alyssa Hutchins hit 13 of 20 shots to lead all scorers with 29 points and also led the defense with a game-high six steals. Ricki Koso chipped in 10 points for the Warriors, and Jaylee Taylor led Ketchikan with 11 points.
West Valley barely gave Chugiak room to breathe, rolling to a 31-9 halftime lead and holding the Mustangs to 20.5-percent shooting. Led by 10 points from Hannah Mattson, nine different players scored for West Valley. Jessica Tramp led Chugiak with nine points.
Juneau trailed 36-35 after three quarters, but used a 25-18 advantage in the fourth quarter to beat Colony. Esra Siddeek led Juneau with a game-high 22 points, Marissa Brakes added 10 and Gabi Fenumiai chipped in 10. The Crimson Bears hit 33 of 43 free throws.
Faith Farris led Colony with 12 points, Mary Klapperich added 11 and Izzy Tweed furnished 10.
Dimond used 13 points from Aminata Cole, and 12 each from Alexis Rogers and Sierra Afoa to roar back from a 33-26 halftime deficit to North Pole. The Lynx, who received nine rebounds each from Cole and Afoa, outscored the Patriots 32-13 in the second half. Erica Croxen led North Pole with 13 points, and Josie Broderick added 11 points and eight boards.
East's win included 22 points and 12 rebounds from Taria Page, and Felila Manu produced 10 points and eight steals for the Thunderbirds. Kaylynn Haywood led the Lynx JV with 10 points and seven rebounds.
West saved its best play for last, scoring nearly half its point total in the fourth quarter against Craig. The Eagles, led by Anastasia LaVern- Tosi's 21 points and 13 rebounds, trailed by three at the start of the final period, but outscored Craig 24-17 over the final eight minutes.
Craig's Melissa Castle led all scorers with 23 points, and Katy Dinon chipped in 11 for the Panthers.
Lathrop used 17 points from Brooke Lizotte and 13 from Haley Kennedy to beat South, which received 10 points each from Sierra Main and Jasmine Ashby. Lathrop outscored South 22-0 in the second quarter after the teams were tied 12-12 through one quarter.
Nome's Devynn Johnson racked 17 points and Dylan Johnson added 13 to help beat Kenai. Bailey Benson led Kenai with 17 points, Carolyn Kiefer added 12 and Sydney Taylor chipped in 10.
Dimond boys and girls top CIC standings
As the only undefeated basketball teams in Cook Inlet Conference play, the Dimond boys and girls are perched atop the conference standings.
The Dimond boys handed defending state champion Bartlett its only CIC loss of the season last week and are coming off a 69-44 win over Eagle River on Tuesday.
The Dimond girls have also racked up some big conference wins this season, most recently blowing out Eagle River 90-32 on Tuesday.
