5th snowiest winter on record, so far, in Juneau

JUNEAU -- The National Weather Service said that so far, this winter has been the fifth snowiest on record for the capital city.

The agency said November was the third snowiest since record keeping began in 1943, with snowfall at 283 percent above normal. December saw near-normal snowfall but last month ranked as the eighth snowiest January, with nearly 40 inches falling within a 10-day span alone.

The weather service said normal snowfall is 16.8 inches for February and 11.6 inches for March.
