As a former educator I believe in school choice. It is the right of parents to choose the school they want for their child. Giving the parents this control helps make our schools more accountable when the administrators and teachers know they have to offer the best education possible for students in their area. Competition is good for all parts of life.
There are some areas in Western Alaska where school choice may not be practical because of distance between villages but there, school choice could come in the form of what kind of school does the village desire -- for example, more vocational classes or ones geared to college.
School choice is here to stay. Therefore, nobody should fear it but embrace it as an option for our most important resource, our children.
