SITKA -- A 50-year-old Sitka man has died in an accidental shooting. KCAW reports the gun went off accidentally when Tony DelMoral was putting his handgun back in a holster Saturday.
Police tell the radio station there were no witnesses but others at the range came to his aid.
The Daily Sitka Sentinel reports people on scene tried to call 911 but couldn't get cell coverage at the range eight miles outside town. They put him in a truck and were taking him to the hospital when they met a U.S. Forest Service officer along the way, and police and an ambulance were called.
DelMoral died before they reached the hospital.
The body has been sent to Anchorage for an autopsy.
