The dogs are watched over by vets during the Iditarod and cared for. I do not have the numbers but I'd venture that with the exception of a select few none of the mushers are making money from their dogs or racing. The men, woman and dogs mush because they love it.
I will support PETA in any effort to stop animal cruelty, dog fighting, abuse etc. However with PETA's attack and attempt to jeopardize the Iditarod for what I consider to be totally frivolous accusations is shameful and I applaud any contributor of time, money or support of the Iditarod .
