Scheid, who grew up about an hour from St. Cloud in Blaine, Minn., scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to spark UAA's 3-2 Western Collegiate Hockey Association win.
For Scheid, it was his first game-winning goal and his first multi-goal game.
For the Seawolves, it was their first victory at the National Hockey Center and their first win in 35 games in St. Cloud, where they hadn't prevailed since sweeping a series as a Division I independent in November 1987.
Solid goaltending from Rob Gunderson aided the Seawolves (8-19-2 overall, 5-19-1 WCHA). Gunderson made 24 saves and stopped all three power play chances by the Huskies (12-15-4, 9-11-3).
St. Cloud took a 1-0 lead on a first-period goal from Jarrod Rabey, but Scheid's first goal, which came after a Scott Allen slapshot rebounded off St. Cloud goalie Mike Lee, knotted the score midway through second period. Daniel Naslund scored to put UAA up 2-1 with 12 minutes, 47 seconds remaining in regulation. The goal, which came on the rebound of a Jake Portwood shot, was Naslund's fourth of the season and 10th of his career. Freshman Corbin Karl earned his first career assist on the play.
With just more than six minutes left in regulation, St. Cloud's Ben Hanowski struck for his 18th goal to tie the game 2-2.
The Huskies were on the power-play for the final 1:50 of regulation, but UAA hung on to force extra time.
Scheid's game-winner came 2:18 into overtime, when he went streaking down the ice to receive a pass from Jordan Kwas. Scheid skated into the zone, dropped a pass to Allen and then hustled to the net, where he deflected Allen's shot into the goal. The goal was Scheid's fifth of the season
Gunderson improved to 5-9-2 in net and Lee dropped to 4-4-1 for the Huskies.
The teams combined for just four penalties and all of the goals were scored at even strength.
The overtime win was the second this for the Seawolves against St. Cloud. The first was a 4-3 non-conference win in October's Kendall Hockey Classic in Anchorage.
The Seawolves finish their two-game series with the Huskies today.
