Two jailed on sexual assault charges

CHARGED: Police say they met the 2 women in a downtown bar.

Two men were arrested over the weekend for allegedly sexually assaulting two women they met while drinking at a downtown Anchorage bar, police said Monday.

Ethmer Rader III, 43, and Lawrence Nicolaides, 33, were arrested on Saturday. The men allegedly met two women while drinking at the Gaslight Lounge that they later took to a Spenard hotel and sexually assaulted. Police don't know how they got from the bar to the hotel, said APD spokesman Lt. Dave Parker.

According to police, both women were "incapacitated" at the time of the assaults.

Police also said one of the women woke up during the sexual assault and tried to get Nicolaides to stop, which he did not do.

Afterward, the women immediately reported the assault, said Parker.

That's important in sexual assault cases, where evidence can quickly degrade, Parker said.

Rader III is being charged with attempted sexual assault. Nicolaides faces two charges of sexual assault as well as tampering with physical evidence. Parker said tampering charge stems from the fact that he tried to clean his hands off in front of detectives.

Both men were arrested and held without bail. They were arraigned Sunday.
