Good call on redistricting ethics

Your recent piece on redistricting ("Redistricting raises lawmakers' questions" 2/20/12) is an excellent example as to why we need new blood in Juneau. It would take a deeply flawed, ethically challenged legislator to think it is OK to send taxpayer-funded mailers to people who aren't their constituents. Thanks to your reporting, we now know there are at least several members of the state Legislature who fall into this category.

The beauty of redistricting is that once a decade there are no true incumbents up for reelection. That means that new people like me (I'm running for the House District 20 seat) stand as good a chance as we're going to get to win simply because the playing field is mostly even. If sitting state legislators wish to contact voters in their newly drawn district, they should pay for it out of their campaign funds, just like the rest of us.
