Fairbanks teams came out on top this year in the GCI Alaska Academic Decathlon Competition.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner says Lathrop High School won the competition in Anchorage, beating the reigning champ West Valley High School team. The two schools have battled back and forth for top honors for years. Lathrop held the title in 2010.
The teams compete in about 10 subjects for the goal of being the state champion.
The Lathrop team now is qualified to go to the national competition in late April in Albuquerque, N.M.
