JUNEAU -- A company has received permission to look for new ore deposits near Juneau.
The Juneau Empire reports the U.S. Forest Service has approved the exploration for Greens Creek Mine next to its sulfide mine on Admiralty Island. The area is located within the Admiralty Island National Monument.
This is in a roadless area, and the company plans to use helicopters to transport rigs, affecting about 1.25 acres. The company plans to drill from 11 platform sites.
