'Rally for Reform' seeks changes to oil taxes

The Associated PressMarch 17, 2012

A rally to urge changes to Alaska's oil tax structure is planned for March 28 in Anchorage.

The "Make it Meaningful Rally for Reform" will come with about 2 1/2 weeks left in the legislative session.

A flier for the rally, sponsored by business and resource development groups, calls on people to join more than 1,000 Alaskans for the event.

Gov. Sean Parnell spoke at a similar rally last year in the midst of debate over his tax-cut plan. His plan, which has industry support, later stalled in the Senate, where leaders said they didn't have the information needed to make a sound policy call and refused to be rushed into a decision. The Senate is crafting its own proposal this session. Industry has panned SB192 in its current form.
